Incorporation of ESG Investing Indexes

Sapporo Holdings promotes activities under the belief that sustainability activities including Environmental (E), Social (S), and Governance (G) will result in long-term corporate growth and profit returns for shareholders.
As of the end of 2023, we are incorporated in the following ESG investment indexes.

FTSE4Good Global Index
(FTSE Russell, the United Kingdom)

FTSE4Good Global Index

The FTSE4Good Global Index was designed to evaluate and promote investments toward companies demonstrating strong Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meeting other existing international standards. The series is the optimal index for ESG investments due to its transparent management and selection standards, and the excellent brand image of the FTSE group.

FTSE Blossom Japan Index

FTSE Blossom Japan Index

This index is comprised of selected Japanese corporations with excellent ESG scores from those within the FTSE Japan Index of the FTSE4Good index series. It is used as the ESG investment index for the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).

MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index

MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index

The index is composed of companies with excellent ESG ratings in their respective industries, selected from the constituents of the parent index provided by MSCI (MSCI Japan Investable Market Index (IMI)). It is used as the ESG investment index for the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).

Sompo Sustainability Index

Sompo Sustainability Index

Used for Sompo Asset Management operations.
This index is a socially responsible investment product geared toward institutional investors/pension funds which invest widely in companies with excellent ESG (environmental, social and governance) scores. It operates on a long-term basis, upon the “Sompo Sustainable Index” which offers an original configuration of investment brands with weight put on ESG scores.

CDP’s A-list in the Water Security Category

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an international non-profit organization founded in 2000 and headquartered in London. It collects, analyzes, and evaluates information on the environmental activities of the world's major companies, and discloses the results to institutional investors.

Received the “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Award” at the 27th Annual Global Environment Awards

Sapporo Holdings received the “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Award” at the 27th Annual Global Environment Awards. The award commemorated the technology of “generating bioethanol from cassava tapioca starch,” which was a result of the biomass energy technological development that applied our brewing techniques from our long years of domestic and overseas alcoholic beverage production. Our goal is to contribute toward resolving energy and environmental issues, while disseminating technology for bio energy manufacturing to ASEAN countries, which have large-scale cassava farming.

Sapporo Group, certified as an excellent health management corporation

In 2024, Sapporo Holdings, Sapporo Breweries, and Pokka Sapporo Food & Beverage received the "Excellent Enterprise of Health and Productivity Management (White 500)," and Sapporo Lion was also consecutively certified as a corporation for excellent health management.
In the small-and medium-sized corporation category, Yasuma Co., Ltd. has been consecutively certified as an excellent health management corporation and received the "Bright 500" certification for excellent health management in 2021. Both SAPPORO REAL ESTATE and Sapporo Field Marketing consecutively received "Bright 500" certification for excellent health management, and Sapporo Group Logistics was newly certified as a “Bright 500” for the first time.

The Sapporo Group is promoting various initiatives to improve the health of its employees. These include the establishment of a follow-up system after regular health checkups in cooperation with industrial physicians, the implementation of health promotion measures unique to each workplace, and activities to improve the workplace environment by utilizing the results of group analysis of stress checks. Furthermore, initiatives such as smoking cessation measures in cooperation with health insurance associations, measures to improve participation in lifestyle-related disease check-ups, and campaigns to promote exercise and healthy eating habits have also been implemented. This certification was given in recognition of the fact that Group companies verify the effectiveness of various measures based on objective data and implement the PDCA cycle to improve their initiatives.
The Sapporo Group will continue to make further efforts to improve the health of its employees.

Selected as one of "Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual-career and Co-parenting" in 2024

Sapporo Holdings has been selected as one of “Next Nadeshiko: Companies Supporting Dual-career and Co-parenting” jointly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).
This evaluation was newly established in FY2023 and is targeted at listed companies that are particularly outstanding in their efforts to provide gender-neutral “support for all employees to manage to strike a balance between empowerment in the workplace and child rearing (i.e. dual-career and co-parenting).”
Sapporo Holdings has been working to increase the rate of male employees taking childcare leave, believing that this will fulfill the wishes of men who want to be actively involved in childcare, help them understand childcare and housework, which tends to be carried mainly by women, and reduce the burden on women. We believe that the participation of both men and women in childcare will lead to flexible work styles, the success of diverse human resources, and will also improve the engagement of all employees.

Awarded the Gold Prize in the Age Friendly category of the "SAFE Award" by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare

Sapporo Lion was awarded the Gold Prize in the Age Friendly category at the 2nd SAFE Awards by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) in recognition of its efforts to create an environment where elderly workers can continue working energetically for a long time.
Amid the labor shortage in the restaurant industry, Sapporo Lion will continue to promote efforts to improve the working environment so that senior workers with motivation, skills and experience, who are important workforce, can work safely, while helping both companies and workers understand the possibility of increased risk of occupational accidents, etc. due to the characteristics of elderly workers (such as reduced mobility, eyesight, and hearing) as their own matters.

Sapporo Holdings, selected as a "Semi-Nadeshiko" company in 2021

The Sapporo Group aims to create a situation in which it is natural for women to continue to be active and fulfilled in their work, as a gateway to respect and utilize diversity in all aspects. The Group is also working to raise the awareness of managers and introduce a new human resources system that enables all generations of employees, regardless of gender, to be active in the workforce. In recognition of these efforts, the Group was selected in 2021 as a "Semi-Nadeshiko" company, which excels in promoting women's activities, jointly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

“Platinum Kurumin” certification

In 2017, Sapporo Breweries acquired “Platinum Kurumin” certification from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare as a top-level corporation offering child rearing support. The company continues to support the physical and mental wellbeing of employees by promoting activities to balance work and family life, such as super-flexible work times and telecommuting.

Sapporo Breweries received the 2018 JSBBA Award for Achievement in Technological Research

The many years of diverse analysis of hop quality and its application have been commended, along with the “global contribution to stabilizing hop cultivation,” “continuous breeding and development of high-quality hop strains,” and “the diverse analysis of components unique to hops” for the 2018 JSBBA Award for Achievement in Technological Research.

Sapporo Breweries received the 2017 European Brewery Convention Best Poster Award

The research achievements for the uniquely fragrant hop “SORACHI ACE,” created in 1983, was recognized at the European Brewery Convention. This was the third consecutive year for Sapporo Breweries to receive the highest award.

POKKA SAPPORO Food & Beverage received the 2015 JSBBA Award for Achievement in Technological Research

The high AC electric field sterilization method produces an electric sterilization effect along with heating the food object itself by passing electric currents within the food. The synergistic effect creates a technology that efficiently and swiftly sterilizes microorganisms in food.

Received the Industrial Award for Food Immunization (Japanese Association for Food Immunology) for “Verifying the allergy prevention properties of hops and the anti-inflammatory properties of Lactobacillus brevis SBC8803 through fundamental research and undertook clinical studies to pave the way for the practical application of the effects of these materials”
